So-Gnar Submits Art Into The PBR Art Party! A Great Night in Denver CO.

Last Saturday the 23rd of January, PBR threw one heck of an Art Party. It was held at the Illiterate Media Gallery and Indy Ink in Denver. We were blown away at how great the Art submissions were this year. I think there were over 65 pieces of local Art submitted into the Art Show. Crazy! People in Denver love them some PBR.

We at So-Gnar contributed 3 of those pieces. Two of our pieces were mixed medium concoctions. We used cardboard at the canvas, then applied numerous layers of Spray Stencil's, then adhered textured paper and finished it off with more spray stencil art. The final piece was a computer generated PBR design. We hope one of the wins the contest again this year!

The event was a grand ol time. Jonathan & BPro, Joesphine and the Mousepeople, DJ Ginger and Deftron threw down all night! Great tunes. Both venues were at capacity all night! Can't wait for the next Art Party!!

Jan 23rd Pabst Art Show Denver, 303 Magazine Blog

What really made the show great was the event itself. A house packed with hipsters, all-you-can drink-free-PBR and live music? Everyone’s a winner with that set-up. DJ Matt Palmer started the night off with an unbelievable set, followed by a pretty good set by Josephine and the Mouse People. Both were humbled by Jonathan and BPro, who undoubtedly stole the show. At that point, the gallery was so packed, you could not even move, let alone bring a beer can to your lips. Next door, Indyink was screen-printing free PBR shirts and had live art by Chris Huth and Sam Turner.

We are shooting a MUSIC VIDEO later this month! It will be a mix of "Hypnotized," "Get Down," and "Turn It Up" with a few new surprises in there as well :)

We are also focusing on expanding our live show to include a drummer and guitarist/bassist! It's going to be badass. Check it at our show for Illiterate Magazine on January 23rd (more details to come).

Is it safe to say that the city of Denver is going through a Renaissance period?The talent sprouting on the scene is becoming more of a presence and more noticeable from around the country. The latest on the scene is Jonathan + BPro. The duo bring a Prince meets TV on the Radio persona to the stage (I haven’t seen them live, but what I can see on video and word of mouth). Those two references alone make my all jumpy inside. The clash of early 90’s R&B meets electro in a way that follows in the footsteps of Felix da Housecat. The Denver Decider calls the party people

Sure, being in a band isn't really all that glamorous. In the beginning, the money is tight, the crowds are small, and a fancy get-up isn't at the top of a performer's priority list. But Denver's Jonathan And BPro call bullshit on this trend, and tonight the impeccably dressed pair will give the Wednesday night new talent showcase crowd at Herman's Hideaway a run for their money. These guys rubbed The A.V. Club the right way the last time they were around at the Larimer Lounge with their flawless light show, costume changes, and the most enticing four-song set we've heard in a long time. Beatmaker BPro even told us that for tonight's show, the duo has doubled their set list. We just hope that means four costume changes in the span of 30 minutes instead of two. Cross your fingers!

What happens when your band’s entire set consists of only four songs and the crowd still begs for more? If you’re local electro duo Jonathan And BPro, you rewind, remix, and totally satisfy the party people with a repeat performance. To get an audience jumping on a low-key weekday night is quite the feat, but Jonathan And BPro did that and more during their Tuesday night set at the Larimer Lounge. The pair pulled off its baby set as if the room was on fire, and the non-existent camera flashes were huge. In front of two tall and sleekly crafted boards of pattern-flashing lights (run behind the scenes by Alejandro Archuleta), vocalist Jonathan Nelson let his springy pompadour take the lead, barreling headfirst into “We Go On.” His fancy feet skipped through “Hypnotized,” “Can You Get Down,” and “Turn It Up,” as his equally pretty other half, BPro—his own bowtie and Bowie hair working with a classic rock 'n' roll ease—provided the beats from behind the glow of a MacBook. When the crowd asked for more, the duo sewed up the evening with a remix of “Turn It Up” and gave “Hypnotized” a lovely second turn. Jonathan And BPro’s fashion-forward aesthetic and hyper-clubby sound were obvious reasons why the show stood out among the usual straightforward Denver rock band fare. But more glaringly apparent was the fact that the duo had their shit together, as evidenced by the stand-out visuals, well-rehearsed dance moves, and sweetly addictive tunes that were just as good the second time around.

I went and saw Jonathon and BPro last June 4th, and I walked into Rhinoceropolis not knowing where I was.
The lights they got together for this show were super rad. I felt like I was in an underground disco somewhere in San Francisco's China Town. There was even a dude controlling the cool lit up walls, in tandem with their music.

Oh, yah, this is a "fashion" blog. I keep writing about musicians. Whatever. I never denied the fact that musicians are fashionista's muses. Anyway, I liked their style. I wanted to blog about it. So here it is:

Shout Out!

So we went to the Shout Out Out Out Out show on Monday... get this- there were like ten people in the bar. It was so weird that we were half the crowd but it was definitely the most intimate experience with live music I've had. They played alot of their new stuff which is SO COOL. I met the lead singer Nik afterwards- really cool guy. He mentioned that it was their first ever Denver show, all the while I was saying that I couldn't believe more people weren't there. Seriously, this group has some really amazing shit. Their new album comes out on May 5th- it's a little more advanced than the previous records I have, definitely more rhythmic and organic.

And you better come the next time they play in Denver. I will provide updates.

OOOOH we are working more on the live show.... new ideas.... gonna be so cool....! I was listening to the first segment of the set today, and I had a serious moment.

Alright kids, Cut Copy is playing tomorrow night at the Bluebird. Sold out. We're going. This is probably one of my favorite albums of all time, no joke. We saw them last year at Larimer Lounge(which is about as small as my left arm) so I'm freakin' excited to see them in a bigger venue.
